After a while trying out 13-inch version (June 2009), this time we had the opportunity to test the Timeline 14-inch version has the official name of Acer Aspire 4810T Timeline. Just to remind, Timeline is the latest notebook series from Acer which factors promote a thin, lightweight, and the duration of the battery as the main attraction. But unlike Adamo Dell or Apple Macbook Air, Acer Timeline priced at affordable.
Our test unit, for example (DELL 4810T Timeline 944G50Mn version), sell at a price of U.S. $ 1099. Specifications, Intel Centrino Duo processor SU9400 (dual core, 1.4 GHz), Memory DDR3-1066 4GB, and 500GB hard drive. There are also less expensive version (4810T-352G32Mn) at a price of U.S. $ 789 with an Intel Core 2 Solo U3500 (single core, 1.4 GHz), DDR3 2GB memory and 320GB hard drive.
The price above includes Windows Vista Home Premium and a row of typical notebook features, such as WiFi a / g / n, Bluetooth, card reader, and webcam. But the most special features in this notebook is probably the presence of an internal DVD Writer. Why, it’s not there? For ordinary notebook, is yes. However, for thin and light notebook, these facilities are rare. Of all the thin notebooks we’ve tested (Acer Timeline 13-inch version, MSI X340 X-Slim, dv2 HP Pavilion, Dell Adamo, and Macbook Air), which has no internal optical devices.
Despite of having optical devices, thinness of this notebook to stay awake. You may need to see the photos below to see how thin this notebook. To be sure, our measurements show in a closed condition Timeline 4810T thickness of no more than 3 cm. Its own weight to touch the number 2 kg, or slightly higher than the lightest notebook referred to above. But given the 14-inch notebooks typically weigh over 2 kg, 4810T Timeline remain relatively mild when compared to the same class notebook.
The main cause of why this notebook is the processor can be thin and refrigeration systems. Processor using the Intel Core 2 Duo processor U9400 that includes CULV (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage), so has power consumption and heat output is very minimal. This still added a special cooling system known as Laminar Wall Jet Technology that has been widely used in aircraft engine cooling system. The core of this technology is to make the hot air out in a linear and not turbulent as ever, so the hot air directly out without causing excessive heat in the notebook casing.
Use of power efficient processors also affects battery life. When playing an HD video with the maximum level of brightness, this notebook can last up to 3 hours more. The times are somewhat special because during our testing history, no notebooks that have lasted that long. Moreover, our tests involving HD video playback processor intensive burden. If the standards used for the activity, it must record the time any longer.
About performance, this notebook is not special. Despite having two cores, the Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 used in this notebook is power efficient processor with 1.4 GHz speed alone. If compared Gateway TC7806n, we can see the difference in performance is quite far (see table). However, if compared to other thin notebooks like the HP Pavilion dv2, slightly better performance.

When he tried 13-inch version first, we have already mentioned the potential of Acer products under Timeline; and testing time as confirming this view. We really liked the combination of Acer offered Timeline: light, thin, and affordable prices. Problem is normal performance, yet not all people need to prime performance. Most of us already have enough portable notebook and a long breath, and given that this Timeline Acer.
Test Results
To be clearer, we compare the performance of Acer 944G50Mn Timeline-4810T with HP Pavilion notebook dv2 as vice TC7806n thin and Gateway as a standard notebook. The result, Acer Timeline is in the middle of the second notebook. That is, Timeline 4810T has good performance as a light notebook, but still less than the notebook-based Intel Core 2 Duo normal.
Only within six months of the year 2009, global sales of computer netbook category has reached 13.5 million units. Until the end of this year many new types of portable computers will be introduced in the market in fierce competition fighting over customers.
